Q & A with Kate Whitlock

What’s the story behind your business?

After many years of hospitality experience and opening my second cafe I was looking for something more. I love hospitality and I love great food, the next level was catering and I’m so excited to begin this chapter.

What was your first job?

Working in a bakery down the road from my parents home in Perth, Western Australia.

When you decided to start your own business, what was your big “why”?

I was working as a cafe manager and was constantly being asked if the cafe was mine. One day I said to myself “no it isn’t mine, but it should be, I can do this!” The rest was history.

What have you had to give up?

Some social gatherings (hospitality hours are not conducive to a healthy social life), sleep ins and my sanity.

Your proudest achievement to date?

Opening my first cafe.

What are some of the most exciting projects you’ve worked on?

Getting a kitchen up and running in my first cafe was scary and exciting and when it finally paid off it truly was exciting! It took the business to the next level.

What would you tell your younger self not to do?

Never be afraid to take risks.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Never be afraid to try.

What’s next for you and your business?

Becoming bigger than my last two businesses combined.
