If there is one thing I learned during this tragic event, it is that the world is full of kind-hearted, generous souls, willing to extend a hand and risk their own safety to help others in need. And our story is just one of hundreds of thousands; many are yet to be heard.

My parents came face to face with the biggest typhoon on earth and they survived. With over 1.4 million people displaced by the super typhoon, we count ourselves one of the very few who were simply lucky.

Together, we’re on a mission to rebuild this town. To transform Balangiga from a devastated community into a bustling coastal town with a prosperous agri-tourism industry by founding a social enterprise. Led by my mother, Amazing Grace is a social enterprise that supports local farmers and entrepreneurs to create thriving businesses that sustain their families, create jobs and rebuild their community.

Help us make this a reality and contribute to our crowdfunding campaign.

I recently married my fiancé in a small, intimate ceremony among family and close friends. We asked our guests to contribute to this campaign as their wedding gifts. We already have everything we need.

Fellow entrepreneurs and friends in the tech start-up space supported us behind the scenes and we are ever so grateful.

I invite you to contribute.

If you’re an entrepreneur, support #HourForHaiyan – contribute one hour’s fees and help rebuild a community through entrepreneurship.

With your help, we will leave the community better and stronger than they were before super-typhoon Haiyan.

If you’d like to offer an incentive and be part of this campaign, email robelen.bajar[at]woman.com.au.

  • Great story. What a great man!
Remarkably, I was in a similar situation, when I saw an injured cat of a person and word by word, not knowing him at all, I found a way to send him money (without being 100% sure that it’s not scam, but something told me it was not). The guy with a kitty was from a city near Cebu. I contacted vets in Cebu and talked to my trusted vet here in Australia to see how we can help the cat (he was shot by an arrow). If you lived in the Philippines, you probably know about pet care side of things.
Even though we tried the best, unfortunately, we were not able to save the kitty. But I’ve never regretted or questioned the moment I sent the money and started helping (which means finding time, resources, people you did not know before, and quickly learn cat emergency stuff).
I’m grateful that I initially talked to that person and I’m grateful that his kitty appeared in my life. That kitty inspired me to learn and share things that can save other cats’ lives. I learned about that person’s family and his story. It’s remarkable. I learned about his other cats. It was very touching. He now adopted a new cat and helps a pregnant cat in his city near Cebu.
I’m so proud of what I’ve done and so glad he continues to love and help cats.
As I’m all about helping others, it feels SO fulfilling!
If I’m not here tomorrow, there are at least good things I’ve done that live through time. That’s why I truly admire what that men did for others. Thank You, a caring soul!
